What Is The Afro-Mexico Experience?

If you want to travel mindfully and feed your soul while doing so, The Afro-Mexico Experience is for you. Beginning and ending in Puerto Escondido, Mexico, this 7-day, 6-night trip is led by locals and designed for travelers who want to thoughtfully immerse themselves in the customs and culture of Mexico's Afro-descendants.

This trip is designed to take you on an exciting exploration of Afro-Mexican heritage, with opportunities to savor local cuisine, adventure through the arts, and engage in various activities that highlight the richness of this vibrant coastal community.

Travel Through Your Tastebuds

  • Break bread with likeminded travelers over an authentic Mexican welcome dinner
  • Dine on traditional Afro-Mexican and Indigenous meals at local restaurants and as a welcomed guest in the home of an Afro-Mexican family
  • Taste the flavors of Oaxacan cuisine while learning the history of several businesses in Puerto Escondido on a walking food tour
  • Sip on Mezcal while learning about this traditional Mexican spirit at a tasting
  • Savor the flavors of la Costa at our farewell dinner

Explore Through The Arts

  • Visit Vicente Guerrero Saldaña Museum of Afro-Mestizo Cultures, one of the only museums in Mexico dedicated to the history of it's Afro-descendants
  • See the works of local artist on an art walk
  • Tour an art gallery and meet the artist for a live discussion on their work
  • Listen to a live performance of an Afro-Mexican genre by a renowned musician
  • See traditional Afro-Mexican dance performed at a Dia De Los Muertos festival


Explore Afro-Mexican Towns and Landmarks

  • Venture through various Black towns within La Costa Chica and connect with locals along the way
  • Explore Cuajinicuilapa, a municipality known for it high population of Afro-Indigenous Mexicans 
  • Visit a historic Afro-Mexican home and get a glimpse of how the community lived in the past
  • Relax at “El Farro”, Punta Maldonado, a local favorite and by far one of the most beautiful beaches in La Costa Chica 
  • Start your day of centered with a grounding morning meditation session at Manzanillo Beach

Visit Chacahua National park

  • Visit Chacahua National Park Led by an Afro-Indigenous Guide
  • Take a boat ride through a maze of mangroves
  • Enjoy the blues of 5 lagoons with a refreshing swim
  • Visit a Crocodile Farm and Bird Sanctuary 
  • Climb the Chacahua lighthouse for aerial views of the national park
